OUR STORY
PATRIAM is an independent, sustainable menswear brand, based in Perth.
We produce workwear and militaria inspired garments in small batches, this allows us to focus on the quality and sustainability of each piece and to minimise waste.
We are passionate about creating clothes with the best local people and materials, therefore we are working with mills and factories in Scotland to ensure that our garments travel the smallest distance possible before reaching the customer.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of PATRIAM, not only sustainability in the clothing we make but also the community we are a part of. To this end all of our clothes are made in Scotland with materials from around Britain and we make a donation to a local charity with each release. OUR GARMENTS
The garments themselves are inspired by workwear and militaria from around the world, these are often made solely with functionality in mind and reworking them provides everyday useability with timeless design. This timelessness allows the garments to effortlessly straddle traditional fashion trends and give the user longevity without any impact on style.
Our first two pieces display this philosophy perfectly, the Kinnoull overshirt is derived from a US army popover shirt from the 1910s embodying the militaria aspect, whilst the pocket layout for the Moncrieffe is inspired by mid-century French workwear embodying the workwear aspect.
We have used a dry waxed cotton from Halley Stevensons in Dundee, this makes the overshirts adaptable as they can be used as layering pieces when it is colder or as outerwear in the warmer months. The nature of waxed cotton also means that the garments will take on characteristics depending on how they are used, how the user moves in them etc. Over time this will give each piece a unique patina making them truly individual.
Our aim is to create garments that push the boundaries of designs whilst also maintaining an everyday wearability.
THE NAME
The name PATRIAM, Latin for Homeland, speaks to our aim of keeping the core of the brand as close to home as possible, manufacturing in the heart of Scotland with materials from around Britain. Another reason we chose PATRIAM is that it can apply to anyone, everyone has a homeland. The fact that our designs are influenced from around the world illustrates the idea that whilst being based in Scotland our clothes are designed to be used around the world, and moulded to the environment of the user in ways that we can’t always foresee.
